366 Project - Day 212 - "Thinking of the Past"

July 30, 2012 - "Thinking of the Past"

I spent a good portion of today thinking of the past. Working on my family's genealogy... scanning and uploading old family photos... looking through mementos.

I've been thinking of and talking about my grandfather - Nunzie Peter Pia - a great deal lately. He was also a photographer... and passed his love of the medium on to me.

And so this all led to today's photo... a quick still-life I threw together in honor of a great man. My grandfather's Canon "New F-1" with his original camera strap and his Fourth Degree badge from the Knights of Columbus, for whom he was an official photographer. This has been paired with his hand-held light meter... and a photo of him from 1958 in his Knights of Columbus tuxedo.

I miss my Grandfather. I think of him every single time I pick up a camera... especially when that camera is the one pictured here - which I still use regularly.

Grazie, Nonno! Io amo e mi manchi!
