365 Project - Day 335 - "Narsil"

December 01, 2011 - "Narsil"

The pommel of Narsil... The Sword of Elendil... which hangs upon my wall, as I watch the Extended Edition BluRay of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King".

Narsil... the sword that cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger.

Narsil... forged by the great Dwarven smith Telchar in the First Age, when Elves and Dwarves were friends.

Narsil... whose Elvish name means "Light of the Sun... Light of the Moon".

Inscribed on the pommel... in the Elvish language, Sindarin Quenya - it is written...

"Narsil essenya, macil meletya - Telchar carneron Navarotesse"

which translates to:

"Narsil is my name, a mighty sword - Telchar made me in Nogrod"

Narsil... the sword that was broken... and re-forged - to become Andúril, Flame of the West... Sword of King Aragorn, Son of Arathorn... the Sword of Kings.

(Yes... I know... I'm a geek!)
