August 30, 2010 - "The Tower Falls"

Yep... that's it. That's perfect!

365 Project - Day 241 - "New York, I love you, but..."

August 29, 2010 - "New York, I love you, but..."

New York City.

Hot.

Making my way downtown... heading for Tompkins Square and the "Charlie Parker Jazz Festival".

Heading East on 23rd Street... toward Avenue A.

Pass Lexington...

and realize that today is "Moving-In Day" at SVA.

The sidewalk is lined with young "artists" and their parents... standing next to piles of "cool" Bed, Bath & Beyond dorm-room supplies.

There's a tent set-up for check-in...

There's music playing...

There are portfolios flashing...

And examples of art here and there.

Dozens and dozens of fresh-out-of-high-school "artists"... ready to take on the world. Thinking they've got it. Thinking they're going to be the very first person to hit Greenwich Village with pink/blue/green hair and an army-surplus messenger bag with witty saying written on it.

I'm bitter.

Twenty years ago I wanted "this" more than anything in the world.

Sixteen years ago I was planning to be part of the line-up.

I decided not to.

Now I find myself walking through the crowd here on this sidewalk... mumbling...

"Look! America's future unemployed!"

"The disillusioned artists of America!"

"Check your creativity at the door... you won't have it when you check out!"

Mumbling...

Bitter.

Wondering.

Having a very brief moment of what could possibly be "regret".

Then I feel the weight of my camera in my hand... and I smile to myself...

... knowingly.

And the LCD Soundsytem lyric comes to my mind...

"New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down."

(Life is good!)

Oh... wait... the photo: A view of the top of our Metro-North train as it waits for us to board on our way back home.

365 Project - Day 240 - "An Empty Seat By The Window"

August 28, 2010 - "An Empty Seat By The Window"

Went to the "Connecticut Pagan Pride Day" event in Berlin, CT today.

Adjacent to the festival site was this abandoned garage... which called to me, saying "Come explore! Come on in and explore!"

So I did...

... and found an empty seat waiting for me... right up front... by the window.

August 27, 2010 - "Cold Curves"

The air conditioner is on again... blowing it's icy cold air across the living room.

It's hum is mesmerizing!

And the photo? A close-up of the curves of the air-conditioner's vent.

August 24, 2010 - "The Wind in the Willows"

Waiting for the first meeting of the Candlewood Camera Club's 2010-2011 season to begin...

I decided to wander around outside.

Gentle breezes blow across the pond... moving through the willow trees.

Simply beautiful!

365 Project - Day 233 - "Brundlefly"

August 21, 2010 - "Brundlefly"

Sometimes even I don't know where these images come from. I just look, and they're there!

There's a story behind this one... somewhere. Perhaps it's just a feeling. I don't know.

What I do know is that I looked down on the seat next to me... and the fly was there.

And that was that!

365 Project - Day 231 - "Ignorance"

August 19, 2010 - "Ignorance"

This past Sunday, several friends and I spent the day at the Slopey Rock site at Tarrywile Park - trying to correct the wrongs done to the Earth by others.

This is a photo I took this afternoon of a small portion of the almost 15lbs of broken glass we picked up from the rocks... pulled out of the fire pit... and dug out of the ground.

The sad part is that we weren't able to get it all! There's still much, much more to be done.

As for this glass... it will be put in a large jar as a constant reminder of what the ignorance of humans does to Mother Earth...

... as well as what the love of the Earth by humans can do to help heal Her!

August 18, 2010 - "Café Stella"

365 Project - Day 229 - "Loki"

August 17, 2010 - "Loki"

Loki...

Or, more accurately... "Loki the Dumbass Ferret".

So-named due to his tendency to let his back half fall out of the hammock or off of the platform, dragging his front half down with it... only to get up and do it all again.

Loki... named after the trickster god...

Loki... getting old... gaining some gray fur here and there... (he was an early 30th birthday present from my mom)...

Loki... cuddled up on a blanket with his teddy bear...

... being all cute-like.

365 Project - Day 227 - "The Yearling"

August 15, 2010 - "The Yearling"

In the woods... standing mere feet away from a yearling resting on the forest floor.

My camera's shutter snaps...

I move closer...

... the shutter snaps some more...

She rises...

... the shutter snaps some more...

I move closer...

She stares...

... the shutter snaps some more.

Over 70 images of our encounter... before I step away... and she bolts into the wood.

Such moments are truly blessings!

365 Project - Day 226 - "Sacred Flames"

August 14, 2010 - "Sacred Flames"

I'm standing in a very familiar place...

... in a sacred grove...

... at the edge of the fire pit...

... with very good friends...

... while venison and fresh corn cooks amongst the embers...

... and drums call out in the night...

... saying...

LIFE IS GOOD!!!

365 Project - 225 - "My Zone"

August 13, 2010 - "My Zone"

Morning.

The store isn't open yet.

There's an eerie calm here before the "OPEN" sign gets turned on.

The LED lights of the freezers glow...

This is my zone. My section.

Time to grab some breakfast and get some stocking done before the customers come.

365 Project - Day 223 - "The Veil"

August 11, 2010 - "The Veil"

The "Veil Between the Worlds" has been thin for me lately.

Things move... that shouldn't be able to move themselves.

Voices come... keeping me awake at night.

All of this as my journey through the study and training of Spiritualism and Mediumship continues.

The veil is thin. The question is... Am I ready to listen?

365 Project - Day 220 - "Mother's Milk"

August 08, 2010 - "Mother's Milk"

I needed to get away today. Not feeling quite myself these past few days... and needed to escape for a while.

Spent most of the day in the woods... listening to cicadas buzz... listening to breezes rustle the branches towering above me... listening... listening... listening.

On my way up a very familiar path, I came across a doe feeding in the brush just a few feet away. I paused to watch... and not long after her fawn appeared... also munching away - before running up to mom to nurse. It was the very first time I've ever witnessed this... and also the first time I've ever heard a fawn make a sound... as it called out to it's mom as she tried to walk away from it's desire to suckle.

We stood watching each other for at least five or ten minutes... before I continued on... feeling incredibly blessed by the miracle I had just witnessed.

Life is good!

365 Project - Day 219 - "Blurry-Eyed Vision"

August 07, 2010 - "Blurry-Eyed Vision"

Frustrated...

Annoyed...

Edgy...

Confused...

Feeling "cooped-up"...

Not sure where to go...

... or how to get there.

Worried about making the wrong choice.

Not seeing clearly.

Step outside and stand at the base of the Birch trees...

... point my camera up at the sky, with lens on "manual"...

... but there's no twisting this vision into focus.

Snap to capture the moment of how I feel.

A blurry-eyed vision of the moment's obstacles.

(Life is still good)

365 Project - Day 217 -"The Ties That Bind"

August 05, 2010 - "The Ties That Bind"

My spirituality is extremely important to me. It is part of who I am. It is part of my everyday.

These are my Cords... used during rites, celebrations and workings with my coven, Sacred Flame. Within our tradition, our Cords are our most "sacred" tools... symbolizing milestones in our spiritual paths... representing our bonds to one another... and our commitments to our coven... to ourselves... and our union with the Divine.

The White Cord is given during Initiation... and represents membership to the group and to our tradition.

Red is given if/when one reaches the Second Degree... and represents being a "Priest" or "Priestess" of our tradition.

Purple is given if/when one reaches the Third Degree... and represents a special dedication to the Goddess and God.

Gold represents the Coven Office of High Priest... (The Cord of the High Priestess is Silver).

All represent love... friendship... growth... change... transformation... and commitment.

They represent a major part of my life...

They are sacred to me.

365 Project - Day 216 - "White Lines"

August 04, 2010 - "White Lines"

It's getting late. Haven't taken a photo yet.

Quick scramble around the house looking for the shot.

Then I notice this... the pattern of the folded up playpen cage for my ferret.

OK... this will do.

Quick shot... focus... snap... capture.

Time for bed.

365 Project - Day 215 - "Self Portrait with Bodhrán"

August 03, 2010 - "Self Portrait with Bodhrán"

My right hand flies... sending tipper against the skin of my Bodhrán...

Thump-a-thump-a-thump-a-thumpidy-thump...

My left hand presses against the drum head from the back...

... cupping...

... pressing...

... flattening...

... changing the tone.

Thump-a-thump-a-thump-a-thumpidy-thump...

And my camera catches the moment.

Life is good!

* * *

Thankful...

* * *

Today I am thankful for...

... the thump-thump-thumpidy-thump of my Bodhrán when my hand flies and the tipper meets its skin as I "Boil the Breakfast Early".

... perfect pints of Guinness. (Then again... aren't they all "perfect"!?!)

... shark tooth necklaces.

... Diner lunches.

... yoga pants. (More specifically, beautiful women wearing yoga pants)

... wholesale discounts.

... Employer Tax ID Numbers... and FINALLY owning my own business.

... venison on the grill.

... our coven.

... intense drumming-trances and sweaty ritual robes.

... friendship.

... the possibility of global orgasms.

... Miss Ireland in this year's Miss Universe pageant.

... knowing that the new Iron Maiden album comes out two weeks from today.

... local theaters who put on phenomenal shows.

... the comfort of my iPod.

... the opportunity to exhibit my photography.

... blank Moleskine journals, waiting to be filled.

... the smell of apple orchards "getting ready" for the harvest.

... the harvest.

... the Harvest.

... MY Harvest.

... and life, which is good!

Grab my camera... focus... snap... capture.
